THE DOCENT PROGRAM
Do you love art? Would you enjoy sharing your enthusiasm with visitors of all ages? You might want to consider joining the Gallery's Docent Program. Docents—a word derived from the Latin "to teach"—introduce visitors of all ages to the Gallery's collections and exhibitions.
Becoming a docent requires a three-year commitment. The first year is dedicated to a training program, one day a week from September through May. In years two and three-and we hope many years beyond-docents commit to give 25 tours annually. Following initial training, docents continue to learn, receiving orientations to new exhibitions, the latest research on the permanent collection, and training in teaching and touring techniques.
The docent training program is offered every three to five years. Although the next year-long session has not been scheduled, we are always delighted to speak about the program and maintain a file of interested individuals.
