Around the MAG

Exhibitions News

MAGazine has gone digital! The Gallery's annual member magazine is now Around the MAG, with headlines and features that change each month. Don't look for us in your mailbox, but do visit this site often. (If you're a MAG member, you'll still receive ARTiculate, our bimonthly calendar, by US mail.)

Collection Connections: Judd Williams

Next time you're at MAG, stop by the Forman Gallery to see works by Lawrence "Judd" Williams, one of six regional artists featured in the 4th Rochester Biennial.

A keen observer of structure, Williams’s attentiveness to the richness inherent in familiar or overlooked forms refreshes our own ability to see. In the four-part sculpture Sledges and Piers (on the left-hand wall) he creates a new work using found materials that bear the marks, colors and wear of an earlier life. A nearby drawing (one of a series of 14) explores the form of a chair. All the works are from the Gallery's permanent collection.

The 4th Rochester Biennial is on view through September 26.
